DEENA MOORE

Founder and Executive Director/CEO

Deena was born in Norfolk, Va.  A proud Hampton Crabber and mom of 5 amazing children- she has also raised 3 children in love, has 5 grandchildren, and loved hundreds of children in her 21 years of coaching cheerleading.  Deena has an AAS in Medical Assisting, BS in Information Technology. She has a 30-year background in healthcare including cardiovascular technology and health information systems.  She retired from corporate in 2017 to go into full-time entrepreneurship.  Deena has two businesses- Hands over Hearts for Life, and Freedom Enterprises. She is a powerful coach, consultant, and community advocate. Her strengths include training/facilitating and serving others. She lives by 3 scriptures: Jeremiah 29:11, 2 Timothy 1:7, 1 Corinthians 13:13- a sound mind, a hopeful heart, and leading by love.

Whalan McDew

Board President

Whalan McDew was born in Goldsboro, NC, and raised in Hampton, VA. Whalan is a community activist in Hampton Roads, and his purpose is to be a part of the change in this area.
Whalan McDew is a veteran of the US Army.  The training he acquired while serving in the armed forces has equipped him to be a very disciplined and dedicated man to his community.  Whalan also has an Associate of Applied Sciences Degree and is currently a student at Old Dominion University, where he studies Human Services with a concentration on substance use disorders.
Whalan is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and an Advisory committee member of YH. Thomas Community Center in Hampton, Marketing commissioner with the Neighborhood commission with the City of Hampton, a member of the Virginia Peninsula Community College Alumni Board, President of the Do Gooders of Hampton Roads, President of the Shell Rd Community Association, Chairman of Pretty in Pink Women’s Empowerment Organization. Program Coordinator for the Fresh Start Job Readiness Program at the Center for Child & Family Services and a Board Trustee and President of the Usher Board at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Newport News, VA.

BOBBY ATKINSON

Membership

Bobby Atkinson was born in Dixie Hospital on December 28, 1957, to Mark and Reatha Atkinson, who taught their children the Christian values of giving back and serving others and the community—a proud Hampton High School class of 1967 graduate.  Bobby's most remarkable moment was becoming the first African American quarterback to win the state championship at Hampton High School under Coach Mike Smith.
Bobby went on to enlist in the US Army and serve for eight years.  Bobby then went on to serve twelve years in the US Reserves.  After retirement, he began his forty years of service as a Master Craftsman for the Newport News Shipyard and is looking forward to his retirement in 2023!
Service to others is at Bobby's heart, and he has joined and volunteered with several organizations to give back to his community since 1981.  He is a lifelong volunteer at the Citizens Boys and Girls Club.  During President Obama's two terms, Bobby volunteered for the "Yes We Can" youth organization.  He is also a member of the Peninsula Former Athletes in Hampton and is now a board member of the Do Gooders of Hampton Roads as the Membership Coordinator!  Bobby is the father of three grown daughters, Tracy, Shaunte, and Anya.

 

KRISTA SCOTT

Secretary

Krista Scott was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and lived between Baltimore, MD, and Detroit, Michigan, for over 30 years. In 2010, she relocated to Hampton, VA. She is the founder and CEO of Kristyles Administrative Professionals, Inc., a virtual assistance company established in 1997 to support independent business owners, small businesses, and churches.

Krista has an Associates & Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Bryant & Stratton College, Hampton, VA. She has been working for Riverside Health Systems since November 2010. She’s very passionate about supporting the community and working with grassroots organizations. She is currently the Financial Secretary for The Historical Foundation of Aberdeen Gardens, the Secretary for Do Gooders of Hampton Roads, and Vice President of Pretty In Pink Women’s Empowerment Organization.

Krista is very passionate, highly motivated, and very energized. Recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2020, she is a two-year survivor and is grateful and thankful to the Lord and her family. In addition to working with the community, she advocates for her family. Krista is a wife, married to Terry Scott. A mother of two sons, Army Vet Donald and Bethel HS student Nathaniel along with her seven grandchildren.

 

GLENNIS PATRICE JUANITA ROYSTER

Secretary

Glennis Royster was born in Vidalia, Georgia, and was raised in Chesapeake, Virginia. She’s the CEO/Crafter of Pooh’s Craft House. Glennis is also the Project Manager of a nonprofit called Pretty in Pink Women’s Empowerment Organization and on the Executive Board for Do Gooders of Hampton Roads.

Glennis has an Associates and Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Bryant and Stratton in Hampton, Virginia. She also has a Degree of Completion in Massage Therapy with a minor in Sports Therapy. Glennis is an advocate for Intractable Migraines in her community.
